What does video production cost in Malmö? Here's what drives the price
Two films can look identical in the budget meeting and still cost completely different amounts. Here are the factors that actually drive the price of video production, and how to get the most out of your budget.
The price of a video production is driven by three things: how much preparation the idea requires, how big the shoot itself is, and how much happens in post-production. If you understand those three parts you can genuinely influence your budget, instead of comparing quotes that don't describe the same thing.
The three parts that drive the price
- Pre-production. Idea, script, storyboard, planning and locations. A clear goal and a good brief make the whole production more efficient.
- The shoot. Team size, equipment and number of shooting days. This is usually the single largest item.
- Post-production. Editing, colour grading, sound mix, graphics and versioning for different channels.
On top of that come rights: licensed music, voice-over and any participants.
Why quotes differ
When two quotes look different, it's almost always the scope, not the hourly rate. Questions worth asking before you compare: How many shooting days are included? How many versions and formats are delivered? Is a music licence included? Who owns the material afterwards?
How to get the most out of your budget
- Define the goal first. A film meant to sell needs a different setup than a film meant to build brand.
- Plan for several formats. The same shoot can produce a main film plus a series of short clips for social media. That cuts the cost per piece of content substantially.
- Choose a partner who thinks strategy. The production is half the job. Distribution decides whether the film delivers.

Do I own the film afterwards?
